A vanity mirror is a great way to give your bathroom an elegant look and also a useful tool that will help you apply your makeup in the perfect light. Now that you’ve purchased the perfect mirror, you may be wondering how to hang a vanity mirror.
Fear not! We’ve got a step-by-step guide on how to hang a vanity mirror on the wall. Additionally, we’ll walk you through how to determine how high to hang a mirror above your vanity. With these tips and tricks, you’ll be sure to have your vanity mirror hung and ready to use in no time!
Step 1: Measure Your Mirror
The first step is often overlooked, but it’s an important one – measure your mirror. Depending on how much your mirror weighs will help you determine the proper hooks for hanging your mirror. There are a variety of different hooks to choose from, and finding one that is built to support the weight of your mirror is very important.
Step 2: Find a Stud or Use Drywall Anchors
Using a stud finder, find where the closest stud is located. If there isn’t one available in a convenient location, you will likely need to use drywall anchors. This is especially important if your mirror is on the heavier side. You certainly want the mirror to stay in place once hung, so be sure to use a stud or drywall anchors in the absence of a stud.
Step 3: Attach D-rings
If your mirror does not have d-rings installed on the back, this will be an essential item to add. By hanging the mirror from two hooks (attached to two d-rings), you distribute the weight more evenly across the mirror rather than at a single point.
After identifying where the stud is, you may need to attach the d-ring in an off-center position. That’s totally fine, just be sure that you attach the second d-ring in the same off-center position on the other side to balance it out.
Step 4: Create Guide Marks
Now that you’ve identified where the stud is located (or if you’ll need drywall anchors), it’s time to determine the height of your mirror. But how high should a mirror be hung above a vanity? This really depends on your setup. If you’ve got a seated vanity, your mirror should capture your entire upper body while you’re sitting on the seat that goes with your vanity.
How high should a vanity mirror be if you don’t have a seated vanity? If you plan to be standing while using your vanity mirror, you should hang the mirror slightly higher. Be sure to measure out where you would like the mirror to be before attaching your hooks to the wall. That’s where step 4 comes in!
Create guide marks on the wall using a pencil. These marks will either be erased or covered once the mirror is hung. Be sure to mark the top of where you would like the mirror to be. Then, on the back of the mirror, measure down to the d-rings. Based off that measurement, measure down from the top of the mirror mark and add two more guide marks that you will use to add your hooks (and drywall anchors if needed).
Step 5: Attach Hooks
Now that you’ve marked where your hooks will go (and measured to ensure exact placement), it’s time to attach the hooks to the wall. If using drywall anchors, be sure to install those before adding your hooks.
Step 6: Hang Your Mirror
Finally, it’s time to hang your mirror! Attach the d-rings to the hooks in the wall. Using a level, be sure that your mirror isn’t tilting one way or the other. And now that your mirror is straight and hung at the perfect height, you’re all set! You can now use your expertly-hung vanity mirror to apply the perfect face of makeup.
